The Not-So-Sweet Truth

March is here and it is time for spring-cleaning in your kitchen! It is time to get the sugar out. More and more studies are showing how toxic sugar is to our health. Through out history sugar has been a treat that was seldom consumed. It is only in the past 30 years or so that our sugar consumption has reached epic proportions. Today almost all processed food is loaded with highly processed forms of sugar. Sugar has been proven to be addictive. Knowing this it is no wonder Americans are eating massive amounts of sugar. We are seeing the effects of our over sweetened lifestyles in the current deadly obesity epidemic, astronomical rates of diabetes in people of all ages, ADHD, heart disease, and too many other major health issues to list. It is clear that the way we are consuming highly refined and processed sugar is bad…. But how do we stop? The following list is a guide of whole foods worthy of incorporating into a healthy meal plan… Grass-fed beef, free-range chicken, salmon, sardines, shrimp, eggs, goat cheese, walnuts, oats, almonds, flax seeds, chia seeds, lentils, hummus, quinoa, brown rice, oatmeal, whole-grain bread, broccoli, asparagus, spinach, kale, sweet potato, sea vegetables, avocado, berries, pear, grapes, coconut oil, olive oil, herbs and spices, dark chocolate, gogi berries, bee pollen, herbal tea.
